An easy drive from Retreat at Park Meadows is the best Oktoberfest celebration in the United States.
It takes place in Denver, and it’s also one of the country’s biggest and longest running traditions.
The event draws more than 350,000 visitors every year, and it began in 1969.
That’s when Fred and Hertha Thomas honored their favorite tradition by tapping a keg and serving pretzels in Larimer Square where they owned two stores.
The fun takes place September 22nd & 23rd and 29th & 30th. Highlights include:
Food and Drink – A variety of vendors will serve bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad, and warm pretzels, all of which can be enjoyed with Spaten Lager, Franziskaner, and the 48th Annual Denver Oktoberfest Brew.
Ancient Elk – Ancient Elk is a Denver based band that features three-part harmonies and songwriters who give the group an original sound. Their songs include “Wild Feather,” “When You’re Sleeping,” and “Red Mud Sea.”
Polkanauts – Since 2008, the Polkanauts have entertained audiences across the world. The members wear space suits and are known for their lively performances as they play rock and metal covers in a polka style. They perform songs by artists such as Led Zeppelin, Frankie Yankovic, and Brittany Spears, and play traditional polkas in between.
Squeeze Play – Squeeze Play performs a variety of genres such as R&B, country, funk, and the blues. Between them, they have more than 250 years of combined music experience, and the four vocalists are known for bringing outstanding harmonies to the stage. Their repertoire includes “Before He Cheats,” “What’s Going On,” and “I Wanna Hold Your Hand.”
