Explore the History Colorado Center

Not far from Retreat at Park Meadows is a destination that’s designed to ignite the imagination of all ages about the history of Colorado.

It’s called the History Colorado Center, and it has welcomed visitors since 2012.

The museum cost over one hundred million dollars to build, and it features a variety of fascinating exhibits such as:

Zoom: The Centennial State in 100 Objects – This is the newest exhibit, and it acknowledges the diverse people who have called the land home over the last thirteen thousand years. Located on the third floor, the museum states that the objects act as portals that open the doors to the stories of our past.

Destination Colorado – Step back in time to 1918 where residents of Keota will greet you at the depot. After learning about the people who settled in the town, enjoy hands-on activities such as enrolling in the area’s high school and having your yearbook photo taken, milking a model cow, and so much more.

Backstory: Western American Art in Context – Many artists from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century captured the landscapes and people of the West, both of which were changing at a fast pace. This exhibit allows visitors to learn the stories behind fifty masterpieces including Albert Bierstadt’s landscapes and the Taos painters’ colorful Southwest scenes.
