Enjoy Fun Activities At Cherry Creek State Park

Just sixteen minutes from the Retreat at Park Meadows is Aurora’s natural and spacious backyard known as Cherry Creek State Park. It’s anchored around an 880 surface acre reservoir, which means the park offers a natural prairie environment of gentle rolling hills. Visitors can enjoy an array of activities such as:

Cross-Country Skiing – When snow conditions are appropriate, cross-country skiing is permitted on the park’s trails. Not only is this a fun way to see the sights, but it’s a great way to exercise as well. Benefits include building upper body strength, burning calories, and reducing the risk of heart and lung related illnesses.

Bird Watching – Don’t forget your camera and binoculars as the park’s unique ecosystem attracts several raptor species including bald eagles, northern harriers, and red-tailed hawks. To see songbirds, shorebirds, and waterfowl, head to the wetlands area on the south end of the reservoir.

Camping – Pitch a tent and enjoy a night of camping with family and friends. This activity is available year-round and Cherry Creek is one of the most popular campgrounds in Colorado. Winter sites include Abilene Loop, Coyote Loop, and Cottonwood Grove Loop.

Horseback Riding – 12 Miles Stables offers horseback rides within Cherry Creek State Park and there are twenty-seven miles of trails that are sure to give you a fun adventure.

Model Airplane Flying – The Model Airplane Field, also known as Suhaka Field, has two paved runways where electric and gas/glow aircraft are flown. Beginners are welcome and all pilots must display a current Academy of Aeronautics membership.
