Cherry Creek

Cherry Creek is a gorgeous natural attraction in nearby Aurora. It features an 880-acre reservoir with a water-based nature system. Additionally, you’ll find an expansive prairie system which allows free-range access to native birds. The amazing birds of the area are visible year-round. When you arrive at the entrance station, you can grab a “bird list.” Use it to guide your bird-spotting efforts. You’ll have the opportunity to spot rare, majestic birds at Cherry Creek, such as the bald eagle, burrowing owl, and various types of raptors.

The reservoir plays host to over two dozen types of fish, so you’re likely to catch sight of something new if you spend time near the water. Also, the prairie area provides a home for over 40 species of mammals, such as the eastern cottontail rabbit and prairie dog. This ecosystem also includes snakes. Some visitors have seen the occasional rattlesnake, so be aware during your walks on the trail in all of these nature preserves around Lone Tree.
